Duke of Edinburgh

About

Doing their DofE can be a life-changing adventure for your child. A Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is so much more than a ‘pat on the back’ for completing a programme of activities. It is recognition of a young person’s successful journey of self-discovery and development, renowned by employers and universities for the qualities young people have who’ve achieved a DofE Award develop. Its balanced programme develops the whole person – mind, body and soul, in an environment of social interaction and team working.

There are three progressive levels of DofE programmes which, when successfully completed, lead to Bronze, Silver or Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. To achieve each one, participants must complete a programme of activities in four or five sections that involve helping the community/environment, becoming fitter, developing new skills, planning, training for and completing an expedition and, for Gold only, working with a team on a residential activity. It’s not a competition or about being first. It’s all about self-development.

This area of our site will help you to find out more about the DofE, understand what’s involved and discover ways to support your child’s DofE experience.

When and where

The D of E sessions run every Thursday night 6.30pm – 9pm at Amplify Youth Group, Prescot Road, Ormskirk.

Expeditions normally take place over weekends or in Ormskirk School holidays, we’ll let you know about these well in advance.

Cost

There are two main cost involved with the Duke of Edinburgh award, a registration fee of £70 and expedition cost of £150.

Registration

£70.00 (Bronze and Silver) or £23.50 (Gold) to register for the Duke of Edinburgh Award. This will get your child an Electronic Duke of Edinburgh license (E-DofE). It also gets them a DofE pack. Once they have the Edofe license, they are ready to start the DofE.

If possible please pay with a cheque made payable to St Anne’s Church. These will be sent as soon as possible, cash has to be banked and a cheque issued. Please pass both the cheque and registration form to Mike Price.

Session Cost

Each session on a Thursday which they come to will cost 50p. They may not be required to come each week. They will be assigned an adult helper and they will suggest times when your child should attend. This doesn’t stop them attending other weeks if they wish.

Expedition

The expedition which is the last section they will take costs £220. We have booked to do the practice expedition on 25/26/27th September 2015 to lessen impact on school exams. We are planning to run the proper expedition on However we will be looking to start work on this towards the end of July 2015.

More information is available on the official DofE website, but feel free to email Mike Price any queries.
