We have the following dates for the expedition section of the DofE. We will be holding the practice expedition September 26/27 2015 and the proper expedition on 23/24th April 2016.
We are also walking from St Anne’s Church to St Elizabeth’s on Saturday 18 July 2015. We are to meet at St Anne’s Parish Centre at 9.30am and will set off walking various routes to St Elizabeth’s, Scarisbrick. This is a navigational exercise and will help with orienting a map and walking skills. Parents are welcome to join us on this trip, or the children can be collected from St Elizabeth’s at 4pm.
The walk is about 12.5km and easy going. We plan to stop at Scarisbrick Marina for lunch. Children should bring a packed lunch and plenty of drinks. We will require a parental consent form (Below) for all attending.
If anyone would like to get sponsors for the walk, then please do so. Any money raised can help with equipment and resources.
On Thursday July 23 2015 we are meeting at Beacon Country Park at 6.30pm for an orienteering session. This will last two hours. The young people will gain great navigational experience from this session. They will require walking boots and clothing suitable for the weather. We will supply the orienteering maps and compasses. Parents can join in too (but let the young people lead). They can be collected from 8.30pm.
There is a parents’ meeting on Thursday 30th July when we will provide more information on the expedition and answer any questions/concerns. This starts at 6.30pm and should be finished by 7pm.
If you have any queries or concerns in the meantime then please don’t hesitate to contact me.
