Letter to parents Jan 2016 about the expedition dates and training. 21/01/16
Your young person has now started the Duke of Edinburgh award. They are to have started all sections and be sending evidence by the practice expedition which is to be on April 23/24th 2016. They can come along to the Thursday night sessions and get help and advice but they are not required to, unless we ask them to attend. Each Thursday session will have the following format: 6.30 – 7.30pm EDofE help and advice; 7.30-8.30pm expedition skills; 8.30pm till 9pm free time. The only times this will change will be in March when we start their expedition training. This will start on March 3rd and will last six weeks. It is very important that your child attends these sessions as they will require all the skills we will be teaching.
We will also be going to Beacon Country Park on February 17th for an orienteering session. This starts at 2pm and finishes at 5pm. Parents are more than welcome to take part. This is a free session and included in the cost of the expedition. This is a very important session and all should attend. Also we will be having a navigation day on Sunday March 6th. This will help prepare them for the expedition and get them used to walking. We will walk from St Anne’s church to St Elizabeth’s in Scarisbrick. We will start at 9am and should finish between 2 – 4pm. This is a mandatory session and all should attend. Parents are welcome to join us for the walk too. We might do the walk for charity or to raise some money for equipment/church roof fund.
We are planning the September proper expedition but cannot give a a date yet. However, it will be in school time and not the summer holidays. All candidates should have finished the other sections of the award by the time they take the proper expedition.
We also require any outstanding payments by September 2016. If you have any queries or concerns then please don’t hesitate to contact Mike.
